All rescue animals deserve a loving home. Please help honor them for Remember Me Thursday.<\/p><\/div>\n

Today is Remember Me Thursday<\/a>\u2122 – a global social event created to spread awareness on the beauty of pet adoption, to shine a light on all orphan pets still waiting in shelters for a home, and to honor the lost pets who ran out of time before they could find their forever home. The special day was created by Michael Arms, the President of the Helen Woodward Animal Center<\/a>, in 2013.<\/p>\n

Arms wanted an\u00a0event to\u00a0honor all the compassionate and dedicated people working in animal welfare who are forced to take the lives of the pets they love. He felt that by lighting a candle for those orphan pets, it would be a way for people to let the world know how much they loved them, that they weren’t forgotten, and that the awareness could help in increasing pet adoptions.<\/p>\n

Uniting people worldwide, the campaign encourages individuals to light a candle (literally or virtually) and to opt to adopt, reducing the millions of orphan pets euthanized each year. You\u2019ll find out how to light your own candle, and you can also share the event by tweeting, posting, and using the hashtag, #RememberTheRescue.<\/p>\n

There will also be numerous\u00a0animal loving celebrities, behaviorists, athletes, and well-known animal personalities who will come together to light candles, acting as luminaries to lend their voices for the event, including Pauley Perrette, official spokesperson, as well as Beth Stern, Carrie Ann Inaba, Dr. Marty Becker, Diane Keaton, Eric Roberts, Ian Somerhalder and Nikki Reed, Jackson Galaxy, Katherine Heigl, Kathy Najimy, Wynonna Judd, Cole and Marmalade, and Lil BUB to name just a few.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s not something we like to think about, but literally thousands of precious animals will be euthanized across the world in the brief amount of time it takes you to read this post. It\u2019s heartbreaking and very difficult for those of us that love animals to comprehend, but the fact is, it happens.
