Well, as per the usual tradition of Groundhogs Day on February 2nd, \u00a0Phil the Groundhog from Punxsutawney, PA is supposed to emerge from his burrow to predict whether or not we\u00a0will \u00a0have an early spring or if \u00a0winter will stretch on until mid-March. The answer is based on hard, scientific evidence, i.e., whether or not he sees his shadow, and it’s a ritual that has been going on since 1887. The gist of it is simple – if he sees his shadow, we are in store for another 6 weeks of winter, if not, time to put the snow shovels away and break the sandals out! Naturally this was of extreme interest to our cats and they ran\u00a0to the front window and waited with bated breath to see the outcome.<\/p>\n

***Mia’s paws knocking on window*** Hey! Yo! Phil… is that you dude? Can you see your shadow?<\/p><\/div>\n

Ummm… hate to break it to you Mia, but that’s not a groundhog… that’s a squirrel. Try again…<\/p>\n

Whatever… how about you dude? Are you a groundhog? We need to get our day going… can someone just tell us if Phil saw his shadow or not?<\/p><\/div>\n

Well guys, that’s not a groundhog either, but it’s Florida so it’s close enough. Anyhow, enough of the suspense… Phil the Pigeon, err… I mean Groundhog didn’t see his\u00a0shadow so it’s an early spring! Thank goodness… these glorious 80 degree temperatures we’ve been living with lately have been brutal…<\/p>\n

This post has been updated from 2014 when Mr. Groundhog did see his shadow, meaning 6 more weeks of winter!<\/em><\/p>\n
