Public Service Caturday – Using Cats as a Guilt-Free Excuse to Prolong Doing Basic Household Chores…

It’s always a good idea to organize and prioritize your excuses for not being able to get stuff done for the day…

Excuses? When it comes to doing the laundry, making the bed, cooking dinner, vacuuming, ironing, grocery shopping, paying the bills, cleaning the house, dusting, and just about any other household chore, having an excuse why you CAN’T do it is the best! Even though I am just about one of the most organized, goal-oriented, driven, and go get-em type of people I know, I am also a huge procrastinator, especially when it comes to the above and I love nothing better than a good excuse not to do something. And that’s another reason why I LOVE cats so much, because they are just about the best guilt-free excuse on earth for not having to get things done – check it out to see what I mean (and please click on images to enlarge if you have trouble reading the messages!)

Just look at those precious little faces… how can I possibly make the bed now?

Why do laundry today when you can put it off for tomorrow?

Pay some bills? Do some writing? I think not says Kizmet and who am I to argue with a cat?

I love an all-encompassing excuse… looks like I’ll have to spend the whole day on the couch watching TV with the kitties… oh well…

So there you go… some of my favorite cat induced excuses that are tried and true. If you need to borrow them for yourself to prolong doing chores this weekend, please feel free. Thank you very much and if there are any I’ve missed on the list that you would care to share, please do so and consider it a public service…

  1. Deb you’re a genius! Why have I not thought of this? Instead of shooing Magellan OFF the keyboard – I should be encouraging him to sleep ON it!

    Happy Caturday to you!

  2. Ms. Phoebe's Mom says:

I cannot agree with you more! They are the best at everything they do and teach us.

  3. Brian says:

Oh, those aren’t excuses, they are all quite valid reasons!

  4. Love it. Now I have some valid reasons why the housework isn’t getting done.

  5. Rosemary says:

This is so true! I have exactly the same ;problems at my house.

  6. All excellent reasons!!!

    The Florida Furkids

  7. Marg says:

Yup, those cats are such good reasons not to do things. Guess that is why our house is always a mess. That is my excuse. The cats were getting in the way. That works for me. Take good care.

  8. NANCY SCHWOPE says:

    I WAS JUST CLEANING OUT A CABINET,BUT
SAMMIE WANTED LOVING ,SO SHE IS IN MY LAP,WHILE I CHECK MY MAIL.SO CABINETS CAN WAIT.CATS ALWAYS COME FIRST.DONT YOU JUST LOVE THEM?

  9. You my dear……are BRILLIANT!!

  10. I already use some of those reasons for not getting things done but thanks for some new one. Your photo of the cats on the bed looks a lot like our house in the morning. I can’t possibly disturb them when they give me the “look”.

  11. MOL! Us cats always provide great excuses for the humans!

  12. Cathy Keisha says:

I wish TW was more like you. She hates doing housework so instead she’s on the computer. She doesn’t love me. She uses my blog as an excuse.

  13. Those are all valid reasons to procrastinate. My favorite is “I can’t write anything right now, my cat is sleeping on my computer chair.” MOL.

  14. Sue Brandes says:

Those are some great excuses. Have a great weekend.

  15. This explains the growing — and not shrinking — to-do list on the desk. The cats are to blame!

  16. Kitties Blue says:

Our mommy use the cat on the lap excuse all the time; though, the ones you listed are all good! Purrs and hugs, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth and Calista Jo

  17. Well as much as I procrastinate with chores ie. laundry, paying bills, organizing paperwork etc the cats blockade do force me to slow down and relax for a moment. They remind me it’s not healthy to work 18 hours 7days a week without a restful break and completely disconnect. Even if it’s only for an hour or two.

So if sit on the sofa, for example, Jean Pierre, the eldest, automatically jumps next to me no turns to face me and says “how are you doing? How was your day? “. I call him my husband because he’s so mature and understanding. I wouldn’t normally share this with anyone but I know Zee Zoey and followers are knowledgeable and understanding cat people.

But invest in a housekeeper weekly to do thorough cleaning. It takes her 5hours. With six cats and a dog the litter bits, dust bunnies and pet hair get around even though I vacuum daily. I simply can’t do it all. so while my house is clean, I am always behind with laundry , paperwork and other chores. Oh well. I would rather stop and a take a moment for myself, my health and my pets. It’s about balance!

Deb … This is sheer, unadulterated GENIUS! After reading your post, we love cats even more than we already did (who knew that was even possible?). 🙂

  20. I’ve used MANY of those excuses…but I’ve learned a few new ones today too!
    ; ) GG
