Makin’ Biscuits “Love Hurts” Feature Chapter for Valentine’s Day!

Love-HurtsIt’s Valentine’s Day and I love my cats dearly. But sometimes with love, comes pain. That’s what I discuss in the chapter entitled “Love Hurts” in my book Makin’ Biscuits – Weird Cat Habits and the Even Weirder Habits of the Humans Who Love Them. Like the time Zee used Dan’s head as a launch pad to fling himself across the room in pursuit of whatever dangerous predator fabricated itself in our living room. Or like when Peanut makes biscuits on my tummy with such gusto that my stomach starts to gurgle in protest because it feels like she’s rearranging my innards! Or when Zoey attacks my toes when I sit on the couch because she thinks they are monsters that are going to harm me!

Some of the others joining me in this chapter with stories are Lynn Maria Thompson of Old Maid Cat Lady whose cat Gilly will wake up his cat-mate, the Captain, for some playtime by biting his butt; Ingrid Rickmar of Minka & Misha Cat Rescue whose cat Minka uses her feet as a scratching post; Cindy Rein of Catopia Cat Rescue who was able to socialize one of her TNR cats, Finn, a problematic biter, by teaching him some manners, including how to sit on command, and Elizabeth Roberts-Berg whose cat Lover could use some anger-management tips when she’s around Elizabeth’s dog, Cheri.

I end the chapter by sharing the importance of providing scratching post options for your cat, why declawing is harmful for your cat, and tips on how to safely cut your cats nails. What about you, any cat love stories that hurt?

Have a great Valentine’s Day and if you’d like more information on Makin’ Biscuits, please visit www.makinbiscuitsbook.com.

When a dear friend took her life, I received notification that she had stipulated her two treasured cats be adopted either by their vets, who were unable to do so, or by me. Of course I welcomed them into our large family. Chocolate pointed prince Tomo had a very strong personality and was extremely territorial. All of a sudden, after losing his beloved caregiver and his home, here he was in the middle of unfamiliar surroundings, with a large family of cats! He could be forgiven, certainly, for feeling defensive, but I would not tolerate him beating up on my beloved panther prince, and when I approached him after seeing him whap Sun, wagging my finger at him and talking sternly to him, he grabbed my wrist with both paws, claws out, and bit me soundly.

He has been at the Bridge for some time now, along with beloved Sun and so many others; but I will carry the scars of his life lesson for me always, with much love. I never wagged my finger in his face again, by the way. He had taught me well.
