Irresistible Zee – Two’s Company, But Three’s Not a Crowd

Almost from the moment Zee and Zoey met one another, they were inseparable.

Zee has always had a certain je ne sais quoi with the ladies. Call it pheromones, call it his dashing Maine Coon looks and charming personality, but, in short, he’s irresistible to them. So much so, the poor guy barely gets a moment of peace and quiet, because as they say in the movie Field of Dreams, “if you build it he will come” or, as in Zee’s case, “if I nap here she will come.”

It began in his younger days, back when he and Zoey became a romantically involved couple in 2008. They were inseparable back then, and would always be found snuggling together, whether on the couch, on our bed, or somewhere else. After Zoey had a litter of kittens, things changed a bit, because it’s no secret kids can put a crimp in the love department, and they sort of drifted apart. Sort of. Zee more so than Zoey.

Zoey had four kittens – we kept 3 (the girls, Mia and Peanut), as well as one of the males, Rolz, with the other male, Zeuss Catt, moving to Boston to live with a family friend. Zoey back then spent her time raising the kittens and he was on his own (which he much preferred, not particularly fond of the meowing, squirming brood of kittens that one day appeared into his life, seemingly out of thin air). But as they got older and more independent, Zoey began to seek him out again and would find him, no matter where he was. Including one of his newly found favorite hiding/napping spots, the hamper in our master bathroom. Zoey decided, much to his chagrin, and despite the glaringly obvious lack of napping space, that she would nap there too, just to be close to him.

The kittens grew up and Zoey was back to nuzzling and nurturing Zee.

Zee on the hamper. He has an exasperated look, of “oh great, she found me.”

As Mia began to grow up, she too fell deeply in love with her father, always wanting to be as close to him as possible, just like her mama, and would do her best to snuggle into any scenario that let her be next to him. And now, at 15 years old, it still doesn’t matter where he is, Mia or Zoey will find him, sometimes both of them, and even occasionally Peanut, to smother him with love and attention.

Like mother, like daughter. Mia LOVES her papa Zee so much.

Two’s company, but when it comes to Zoey and Mia, three is never a crowd on the hamper as long as they can both be with their beloved Zee (Zoey is behind Zee in this picture).

Never mind that there are dozens of other comfortable places to nap in our house. If Zee is on the chair, then Zoey and Mia will be, too.

Scuze’ me, comin’ through says Mia. There’s plenty of room here…

Not to be left out of the snuggling, often Zee will be surrounded by all his girls – Zoey, Mia, and Peanut.

Zee now spends much of his time in our guest bathroom for his daily solitude before we all congregate – human and feline – to the couch at night. He likes the setup – we have fresh water in there, something he drinks more of due to thyroid issues, and I put a soft towel on the counter for him to nap on. The towel fits his body perfectly with no room to spare. No worries for Mia or Zoey, though. The closer they are to him, the happier, and they just make it work. I actually peeked in once and saw Zoey lying with her body draped over the top of him, with Mia curled into his belly like the size of a pea so they could all fit on the towel. Rather ingenious. Naturally, I did not have my camera at the time, but it was quite the sight to see!

Once Zoey discovered Zee’s napping spot in the bathroom, it was her napping spot, too.

Naturally, Mia wasn’t far behind…

And then came Peanut.

He might appear to be upset for the intrusion, but deep down, I know he loves the company. They all curl up together like a perfectly crafted puzzle and I’m sure the love and warmth that radiates from each of them bring him enormous peace and contentment. Not to mention, they stay snuggled together like that for hours on end, so how bad can it really be?

For those wondering, it’s not just the girls that find Zee irresistible, Rolz also loves being around his papa, too.

Nothing brings more joy and “AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW”‘s than a snuggling soft, warm catpile. I miss those, with only two here and they not being close. But there have been many scenes like yours in our past. *And they say cats are “aloof” and “solitary.” HAH!

  8. That’s so sweet! What a gorgeous pile of fur babies. At our house, everyone wants to snuggle with Fluff. He’s a very big fluffy boy with an easygoing attitude about things. Well, actually we can’t say “everyone” wants to snuggle – only the snugglers want to be near him. Olivia, Midnight & Cocoa prefer not to touch other cats. Ever.

  9. Awww, that’s so sweet… Great kitty pile, and lovely snuggle time ! Purrs
