Goodbye Daylight Saving, Hello Darkness!

Time sure does fly by…it’s already time to set the clocks back when it seemed like just yesterday, we set them forward!

It’s that time of year again. That time when we have to set our clocks back an hour, meaning it gets dark a heck of a lot earlier in the evening hours. We all have different opinions on how we feel about it – me, I’m not a fan. I like the freedom of being able to go outside after dinner while it’s still light and I appreciate every ray of sunshine I can get. Darkness seems to signify the day is over, when it’s really not, and it gives me a closed in, claustrophobic feeling.

Darkness is also not a friend of mine. I had laser eye surgery about 20 years ago and while it was a miraculous experience to be able to see without glasses, due to the large size of my pupils, I was one of a minority of people whose night vision is affected by the procedure. I have severe problems driving in the dark and I avoid it at nearly all costs. When it’s dark by 5:30 p.m. that really limits my freedom to go anywhere on my own in the evening, forcing me to either decline opportunities, or to have to rely on Dan or others to transport me around which is frustrating.

Thankfully I’m no longer affected by it at work. I now work at a company where my hours allow me to always drive to and from when it’s daylight. As far as the cats, being that their schedule rotates around what I do; they don’t really feel the effects that much. When I wake up, that means breakfast (with a loud reminder from Peanut). When I get home from work that means dinner will follow shortly after. And in the evening when I get up from the couch that signifies it’s time for the last small meal of the day.

Peanut has one motto, and one motto only… She doesn’t care what the clocks say. If hers says it’s dinner time, then it’s dinner time!

Since they nap most of the day they’ll just shift their bird watching and sunbathing schedule to accommodate whatever Mother Nature has in store for them that day. How about you all – do you like it getting dark earlier so it’s lighter in the morning, or do you prefer it darker in the morning and more light in the evening?

One minute the sun is here…

And the next it isn’t…

  1. Hey we LOVE your whimsical post! And Jazmine, it’s always wonderful to see You! Lastly we love the cartoon of you holding your protesting fur ball which echoes the universal truth of DINNER TIME. Fun way to start the day of the time change…

  2. Aww, I know how that all feels. We’ve had our change and the chaos it causes in the kitchens is terrible. My solution is that food is served for twice as long so I can gently ease my peep back into the routine of things MOL

What a fun post. Happy Daylight Savings time!

The humans are okay with the falling back thing, but Gracie wanted to be fed at her normal time this morning. There’s no fooling a cat! 🙂

That’s tough about your particular situation, but it IS great that you have so much “help” around the house on the long nights >^^<
I'm a night person and always look forward to the end of summer, which I do not like, and the cooler weather, longer nights and earlier sun in the morning. More darkness means more cuddle-time for the Three and me 😉

I don’t Like Dark Mornings or Evening but I guess lighter evenings means I get more done,xx Rachel and Speedy

  6. We loved having an extra hour of sleep today…but our breakfast was an hour late!

  7. We set our clocks back one week ago, and we enjoyed an extra hour of sleep too. Our breakfast was almost on time, amazing, right ? Purrs

  8. I enjoy taking my evening walk in the dark, although it drives my mother CRAZY! My walk is the one time of day where I’m alone with my own thoughts, and breathing fresh air.
