A “Thank Goodness it’s Friday” Video – Zoey Style!

by Deb at 6:50 AM • Videos7 Comments

This video of Zoey was taken a few years ago when she was just a youngster, but the premise is purr-fect for Friday!! She is saying, “Put down the camera, stop working, and get ready to enjoy the weekend!!”

I couldn’t agree with her more – I am exhausted from a grueling week and am looking forward to a break from the corporate world that I work in so that I can spend the weekend working on stuff I enjoy – cat stuff!!

See you tomorrow – I have a great post that I am so excited to share – it involves a book review, a giveaway, and a very special Q & A with someone who I have been a fan of since I was a little girl!!

October 16 – National Feral Cat Day: Making Sense of it All

I wish for a day that every cat had a safe and loving home and that the streets and shelters were not overpopulated with literally millions of cats. Sadly, not only is that dream a long way off,  but many people don’t share that same mindset and that is why today, National Feral Cat Day, is so important. Feral, or outdoor community cats as would be the proper term, are part of the fabric of society and until the world at large has a greater knowledge about these animals, the battle of escalating overpopulation, misconceptions, lack of respect, and mistreatment will continue to exist and my hopes will be nothing more than an elusive dream…  Read more

Zee & Zoey’s Chronicle Connection Wins Pettie 2012 Award for “Best Designed Blog”

When I tuned in on Friday to watch the Petties Awards ceremony and heard my name called for Best Designed Blog, I must admit I turned into a sobbing wreck of a human being. It just hit me with such impact – two years ago when I started blogging, I just had no idea who I was, what I wanted, or where the path would lead me. I can assure you, I did not start blogging thinking of winning awards and raising money for shelters – I was naive to all of that and was just happy if I got one or two comments on my posts! The Cat Owner’s Survival Guide – Wicker Furniture Edition

Wheee!!! Cats will be cats!! (Image from Cats Fine Arts)

If you are a cat guardian, you have certain issues you have to face, such as irreplaceable family heirlooms and collectibles. Basically, what you have to ask yourself, is do you want to keep them safe within your possession to pass on to future generations, or do you want them to be knocked off wherever you have them on display to be smashed into a kaleidoscope horror of a million pieces of whatever fragile material they are made of onto the floor the split second your cat becomes distracted by a flying moth? Taming Me: Memoir of a Clever Island Cat by Cathy Unruh – Book Review & Giveaway

When the subject of feral or outdoor community cats comes up, the opinions are as varied as a discussion on politics or religion and they range from complete ignorance, meaning some people may not even be aware that cat populations are living outdoors within their communities, to people who believe them to be mangy, disease ridden creatures that are nothing but bird killing machines to be frightened of,  to debate from people whether they can be tamed or not, to people who downright hate them and would prefer they all be exterminated, to people who feel they should be treated with respect and dignity and are actively finding ways for them to peacefully coexist in the community via managed methods such as TNRM (Trap, Neuter, Return, Manage).

What we typically don’t hear about, is the opinion of the outdoor cat itself, and that is why I was instantly drawn to the story, Taming Me: Memoir of a Clever Island Cat, by Cathy Unruh that is written in the feline voice of Lucy Miracle, a formerly feral cat that was adopted by this first time author after a very long window of trust building between the two of them.
