Mirror Mirror on the Wall...

Hey! Rolz here! Since this magnificent image is of ME, who better to talk about it than myself?! This guy, Fernand Mery, sure knew his stuff. Cats and lions, yeah, we kinda go together and I think my handsome and regal profile really shows off my resemblance to the King of the Jungle. If I could read, I’d tell you more about this brilliant guy. Actually, that’s not true. I’m quite a lazy boy by nature and I have no aspirations to learn how to read whatsoever. Feed me, touch me occasionally, admire me always, and let me nap in peace. The human can tell you about this guy if she wants to enlighten you with her ability to grab information from Wikipedia.

Okay, Deb here! Since Rolz has made his point clear, here is just a bit about Fernand Mery. Fernand Mery (1897 – 1983) was a world renowned veterinarian, author, and animal advocate from France. He wrote many books about pets, including these on cats – “The Life, History and Magic of the Cat,” “The Cat,” and “Her Majesty the Cat.” He helped to pass many laws in France for the better treatment of animals and founded several organizations such as The National Council for Animal Protection.  (Wikipedia)

Is a Picture Really Worth a Thousand Words?

Fireworks are awesome… in theory…

Dan and I are homebodies by nature and I can’t remember the last time I got in a car to drive and see a professional display for the 4th of July. Sure, when the kids were living with me, we made the trek to wherever the nearest event was, but that was a long time ago.

So, embarking on a new theme for us in what we call “getting out of the house more,” Dan and I decided it would be fun to drive to the beach to see the display at the Pompano Pier (Fort Lauderdale area) and take some pictures.  We knew we would have to leave around 6:00pm to get some dinner and find parking, but due to an ironic joke on me, we were running late because of one of the cats… Read more

Zee & Zoey’s Chronicle Connection Blog Nominated for Two DogTime’s Pettie Awards

It’s been a whirlwind of awards lately and I’ll admit Zoey has been less gracious than I with her crushing Nose-to-Nose defeat at BlogPaws. I explained to her that all the winners are friends of ours and completely deserving. Plus, Halo food went to feed hungry kitties in shelters, so it is a win for cats no matter how you look at it. Zoey cared not one bit for my pep talk and when she found out Zee & Zoey’s Chronicle Connection had been nominated in two categories for a DogTime Pettie Award, she took matters into her own paws and quickly began to make some changes… Read more

Deb’s Moment With Dara Torres – Age is Just a Number

Dara Torres back at home (South Florida) in 2009 at a photo shoot for a fitness nutrition line she was endorsing. Photo courtesy of Dan Power.

I don’t know how many of you are following the qualifying rounds for the Olympics, but when I watched Dara Torres miss making a record sixth U.S. swim team by nine-hundredths of a second, finishing fourth in the 50-meter freestyle on  the last night of the trials this past Monday, I actually cried as I saw the look of defeat in her eyes. Sometimes the split second, blink of an eye randomness of life just seems so unfair – an entire future shaped by nine-hundredths of a second…  Read more

Happy Birthday America!!

by Deb at 6:50 AM • Wordless Wednesday10 Comments

We are wishing all of our human and furry friends a SAFE and Happy 4th of July!! While we celebrate America’s Birthday, please keep in mind that this holiday can be very stressful and traumatic for our pets. Keep them indoors and try to provide them with a comfortable and secure haven if they are easily spooked by loud noises. If you are leaving the house for any reason, keep a radio or TV on to help subdue the sounds and remove any items that might break off a shelf or bookcase if kitty suddenly jumps to a high place to hide. Animals have a much more heightened sense of sounds and smells and we must respect that and prepare accordingly…
