The Soapy Side of Zee & Zoey’s Cat Ruler of the World Contest and Campaign for a Cause

I’ll be the first to admit it. While I am a very logical, stoic, and even keeled person who is a compulsive over-achiever and ridiculously goal-oriented to the point of driving herself to the ground, I am also a huge fan of over the top television and the flamboyant drama that comes with it. Go figure says the lady who wears leopard ears… I know who shot JR, I remember when Pam Ewing woke up during Season Ten of Dallas to find out the whole previous season was a dream, and I found it to be a very sad day when All My Children was canceled last year. I follow much of reality TV and even know the names of all the Kardashians…

I think that is what has been so fascinating about Zee & Zoey’s Cat Ruler of the World Contest and Campaign for a Cause. I guess you could say we are “trending,” because fans are loving the interaction between the cats and can’t wait to see what will happen next. We all can agree that it is wonderful that the cats are campaigning for a worthy cause*, but it is the social dynamic that is so fascinating and edge of your seat addicting.

Sometimes the tone of the contest is serious, sometimes it is educational and informative, sometimes silly, or very silly, and sometimes it is even catty at times (what??), but most importantly, it is always entertaining and that is what we love. We wanted competitive creativity and that’s what we got! Cats and humans alike are jumping on the bandwagon and it is like a soap opera in and of itself. And why not? What a great cast of cats!!

We have the youngest Cat-idate, Odin, who has only one eye but uses it with razor sharpness to get what he wants and is wiser than his years suggest. Then there is the undisputed nicest cat ever, the benevolent Brian who does not have a mean bone in his body, followed by the sassy, sarcastic, and socially savvy Katie whose self-deprecating humor keeps us on our toes. We also have a bit of the international flair with the dapper and dry-witted Austin whose boredom with all things human related only causes us to love him more. And how about the ever humble Chey who never fails to put us humans in our place to let us know she is the already in charge, or the beautiful Sparkle who plays like Miss Scarlett of the Clue game – we all just want to be her!!

The best part – this is not a partisan election. There are no sides and everyone is a winner. All the shelters get a piece of the catnip pie and all the cats get to promote some great causes and debunk some stereotypes about cats that are still circulating about. Even better is the fans themselves who are actually analyzing the cats answers and platforms. Many who thought they knew who they were initially going to vote for have possibly changed their minds as they digest what each cat has to say.

We only have a few days left before the official Cat Ruler of the World is announced and I must say that I will miss having the campaign as part of my life. I have had so much fun meeting so many great new people and have really enjoyed all the support and comments we have been getting. It seems that the world needed a large dose of creative levity in their lives and we are so pleased we were able to provide that!!

So, get your catnip, fishy flakes, and popcorn ready…. the countdown begins!! Oh, and for those Campaign Managers that are about to be out of a job soon…. I could use some help getting on the Ellen Show… Waffles, are you listening?!!

  1. Ingrid King says:

I can’t wait to find out who wins.

And inquiring minds want to know: when on earth do you find the time to keep up with all that television, considering everything else you do?!

    • Deb says:

LOL, Ingrid! The answer is simple…. I am a “background TV watcher.” I am busy at work on the computer while I listen to the drama in the background!! I only know TV through voices…. no clue what the actors actually look like!!

      • Omc!
        I do the same!

I’ve been wanting to post on FB my daily dilemma ” which program to watch at 4pm? Ellen or Dr. Oz?” ( now that I work from home). Dr Oz wins everyday. I’ve learned so much about health and nutrition and prevention! But also deep down I don’t watch Ellen until she has you as a guest!

      • Deb says:

Oh Christine!! What a good friend you are!! I hope I can get on Ellen soon so I don’t deprive you of watching her much longer!!

  2. Brian says:

I have to admit, we are soap fans here and my Mom even had breakfast a couple of years back with Susan Lucci. One of these days I am gonna post that picture LOL!

    • Brian, you met Susan Lucci? I’m so envious. Although a colleague worked on the set (behind the scenes) and told me what she’s really like…

I grew up watching All My Children before I could tell time. I remember running outside to tell mom the little hand is on 1 and big hand on 12. but I stopped watching couple of years ago. The plots and storyline took a whole new direction, it was awful. But I loved One Life to Live and am still heartbroken that it ended!

this campaign has it all! Like desperate housewives. — the funny, the serious, the ridiculous, the sarcastic…I miss that show.

Hey I have idea–after campaign, start a new reality or tv drama with the cats! But who’s got the time?

      • Deb says:

Christine – my claim to 15 minutes of fame – I actually won a walk on appearance to be on the Bold and the Beautiful!! It was so cool looking at the props on the set and I also got to meet Victor from The Young and the Restless… faint!!! The coolest though, was getting to see all the stuff from The Price is Right, including the big wheel that was spun for the prize showcase!! That was over 20 years ago!

  3. CATachresis says:

Just think, the six cat-idates have created their own soap! The world is waiting to know what happens next? Will one of them be shot in the shower by JR? Or will Alexis Carrington bling one of them to death with one of her diamond earrings? It’s not so much the Day’s of our Lives, but the Lives of our Day!!! Such is the feline soap world!

    • Deb says:

I know, CATachrsis…it’s a claw biter for sure… I just hope we don’t see Chey, Katie, or Sparkle wearing a dress with those football sized shoulder pads!! Yikes… they were horrible!!

  4. It’s going to be hard to pick between friends….but you are right – they all win in the end

  5. Odin is wondering what to wear to the awards ceremony. Is there one? Austin is already wearing a tux and the girls certainly won’t have trouble getting their glam on.

  6. Marg says:

Oh wow, soap operas. I just want the shelters to get something and all the kitties in the shelters. I feel so sorry for all of them and wish we could find them all homes. Also find some nice TNR for all the feral cats. May the best shelter win.

    • Deb says:

Marg – we agree and sure do wish all the kitties could find homes. We hope that this campaign will inspire new awareness to increase adoptions and that more people will learn about TNR.

  7. Hi Debs,

I watch TV too – well I don’t watch it, I hear it though when my Mum is watching it – I would pay attention if you were on there though 🙂

This campaign has been very entertaining – even to us Dogs – and I love that you’re all campaigning for your causes!!

    May the best Cat Win!!

    Your Doggie pal Snoopy 🙂

    • Deb says:

Snoopy – you sure are such a sweet dog and I could hug you all day long!! That is very nice of you to say you would pay attention if I was on TV – maybe you could bark a line to Ellen for me!! Glad you are finding the campaign entertaining and we appreciate your canine support!! 🙂

  8. Sparkle says:

My human had to look up Clue on Wikipedia because your reference went totally over her head! She lives in her own little weird world… if you had compared me to a Photoshop tool or a font style, she would have gotten it, although no one else probably would have!

For the record, I am a Smart Object (although my human more often compares me to Pixelate) and Noteworthy.

And it is true, all the shelters in the competition win (and deservedly so)… although I really want mine to get the big prize!

    • Deb says:

Yes Sparkle, sadly I am aging myself and am quite new to the world of Photoshop that is all rage with you hip kitties. I am trying to get with the program – as you can see I did a pretty good job putting myself atop the TV with bubbles in the background, but it has been an uphill battle! But, whoo hoo!! I do know what a Smart Object is!!

  9. Penelope says:

Me has so loved being part of the team! Purrhaps wes should send Ellen all the threads and purrhaps she would do a show on Cat Blogging!
    Kisses
    Nellie

  10. Kat Gagliano says:

Mom was an AMC fan since da first show. She was sad when it was gone too. Phht! Bad network. I’m glad Zee & Zoey get spoiled, that is the best way to live. Da campaign has been a catastic blast to read about. purrrr

  11. HAHAHAA! OMC, Deb…this is just great! I love your parallels …AND your confessions. ; )
Thank you for putting on an amazing contest and show. We are tickled and honored to be part of it.

Waffles would like to know where to sent her resume.

    ; ) Katie
    YES WE CAT!

  12. It’s going to be so exciting to see who comes out as the winner with all of these top kitties.

  13. It’s hHard to believe a campaign could be so much fun!!

  14. As kitties who own a human who has met most of the Kardashians…you’re not missing anything! Seriouslies! This campaign is WAY more fun! *runs to dig up more dirt just for the fun of it*!!

  15. Rumpy says:

Oh the campaigning is getting vicious too!

  16. Skeeter and Izzy says:

This has most definitely been a hoot!
    Luvs Skeeter and Izzy >^..^<

  17. I loved it too! It was great to have fun and to learn more about all these shelters, and all this for a good cause! Thanks for bringing to us =^.^=
