Stop the Presses!! Another Myth Debunked in Zee & Zoey’s Cat Ruler of the World Contest as BarkWorld Exposes Truth…

Okay all you cats and kittens – please be forewarned that the statement to follow may be a bit graphic and shocking and you may want to leave the room. Breaking news – Zee and Zoey are admitting to the world that they like dogs. Not just like, they love dogs!

This poorly taken image was shot in 2005 before we had a digital camera and BZ (before Zoey). We no longer have dogs, but cherish the memories of our multi-pet household. Left to right - Harley, Bandit, Zee, and Jazz.

We admit that during the course of the campaign that we may have been a bit harsh when it comes to the opinion of cats versus dogs. We remain steadfast that cats should rule the world – that fact will never change, but we also admit that dogs do make great pets and companions and that many a cat and dog can actually have a fulfilling and wonderful relationship together despite what the naysayers may believe.

As a matter of fact, that is another myth and stereotype that we would like to set the record straight on here and now. Many people don’t adopt cats, using the excuse that they have a dog(s) so they can’t. Well, guess what, yes you can. It is like any process when you introduce a new pet or person into your household – there is an acclamation and adjustment period and you have to introduce the new housemates in a patient and logical manner. I know this firsthand, because for many, many years, I have actually lived in the delightful chaos of a multi-pet household – numerous dogs and cats, all at the same time, as well as frogs, guinea pigs, and bunnies – all getting along in relative peace and harmony.

And even though we don’t have dogs in the house any more (or any other species other than the random lizard that accidentally wanders in), we are able to enjoy the canine species through many of the wonderful dog friends that we have met through blogging such as the handsome and sweet Dakota from Dakota’s Den who shares his home with his purrfect cat brother, Cody from Cat Chat;  the delightful Snoopy, a young therapy dog who likes a little mischief from Snoopy’s Dog Blog;  and the wise and insightful Rumpy from RumpyDog who shares his home with FOUR cats – June Buggie, Bubba, Malachi, and Graybie Baby!

L to R – Dakota of Dakota’s Den, Snoopy of Snoopy’s Dog Blog, and Rumpy of RumpyDog, as seen with his cat pal, June Buggie!

That’s why we are so excited to talk to you about a great group of people we just met that are affiliated with an amazing organization called BarkWorld. That’s right, you heard us, BarkWorld, as in “bark,” the sound a dog makes! BarkWorld was  founded in 2009 by Denise Quashie, an award-winning event and social media producer who, after putting her dog, Frankie Beans, on Twitter, realized there was a large pet loving community using social media who did not have all the tools and knowledge needed to utilize it to its full potential. She felt it made sense to create a conference for this community and that was how BarkWorld was born.

But what does this all mean for us cats? Well, it turns out the BarkWorld people also happen to love cats too (actually, they love ALL animals) and they wanted to thank all the wonderful Cat-idates for their hard work and effort they have put forth during the Cat Ruler of the World Contest and Campaign for a Cause. They will be holding their annual conference in Atlanta, GA this year from October 25 – 27 and as a gesture of appreciation, they will be offering the human of the elected cat ruler a free pass to attend the conference if they so choose.  But, even more exciting, regardless of whether the human can attend the conference or not, the winning cat will be presented with a pawsome MeowWorld swag bag and will be making their first scheduled assignment as Cat Ruler of the World (opps… did I forget to mention to the Cat-idates that with the title, comes responsibility?) BarkWorld is going to give the winning Cat-idate a portion of the MeowWorld table where they can provide promo materials about their respective blogs and chosen shelter as well as a custom designed sign to represent them as the Cat Ruler of the World!

Pretty cool, huh!! For those of you intrigued by the conference, please be sure to check out this link with all the details. There will be all sorts of great guest speakers and seminars and I know I am looking forward to attending!! See you all tomorrow when VOTING OFFICIALLY OPENS FOR THE CAT RULER OF THE WORLD CONTEST!!!!!!!!

That’s wonderful that Barkworld is going to the cats – so to speak. I’m looking forward to seeing you there!

    • Deb says:

I agree Ingrid! I also could not believe I had not heard of this organization – I look forward to seeing you again and will reserve a pair of my cat ears for you!!

  2. Brian says:

Flat Brian has been to Bark World and is going again this year. It is a wonderful conference and a wonderful group!

  3. That’s pretty cool that Bark World also features kitties many didn’t know that. Glad to see you featuring some of the BEST looking dogs in the blogging world (if I do say so myself)….

Guess what? Mom didn’t do the “traditional” acclimating for Cody and I. She had read on the net to put a dab of perfume on her, Dad, Cody and me….(animals get to know each other through scent)…she brought me in a crate to our home (Cody was already living there). Left me in the crate for Cody to check me out. He sniffed, hissed once AND ONLY ONCE…he never hissed at me again because I learned super fast who was the “cat ruler” of our home! We have been best buds ever since.

Mom said she had no patience for that acclimating stuff. She said “you are both gonna get along dammit” and we listened. In case you haven’t noticed, “If Mom barks or Cody hisses…..YOU LISTEN”

Thanks for including me in your post today! Barks and licks and love, Dakota

    • Deb says:

Caren… there are always exceptions to the rules and you are Queen of that Club!! LOL!! It was my pleasure to feature Dakota today and I am also glad that I was able to inform people that BarkWorld is about the love of all animals and not just those that bark!!

  4. Cats rule. Dogs drool. I’m sticking to that.

  5. Wow, we knew Brian was going but this is an exciting new wrinkle to be explored!

  6. Breaking news: Thousands who have Godaddy as their server/host for email, website, blogs ect. like me were hacked and have NO access to their email or blogs. The timing couldn’t be worse. Pray to the gods cats for a miracle which ironically was the title of our blog post today.

  7. OMC !
Do you mean there is a convent just for Woffies ??!! 🙂
Sure will be back tomorrow for the voting !

  8. CATachresis says:

That’s a great myth to debunk 🙂 Though we do agree that cats rule as to the manor born, we do accept that dogs have a place, as long as they know where that is 😉 lol

And we do hope that the Godaddy issue will be sorted before tomorrow as many of our friends blogs are affected 🙁 That could be crucial to the vote!!!

  9. Skeeter and Izzy says:

Oh NOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Poor Layla! We hope no serious damamge is done……………….hmmmmmmmmmm could it be political sabatoge? The plot thickens……..mewhaahaaa
    Luvs Skeeter and Izzy >^!!^<

  10. Woofies aren’t so bad…as long as they know their place…behind us cats!! BarkWorld sounds like fun!!

  11. Hi Debs,

Thanks for including me in your group of Doggie friends, I’m truly honored!! I loved meeting you in June….

I’ve been doing my best this year to work on my Cat-Dog relations and befriend as many Cats as I can, cos I never know when a Cat might join us on a Therapy visit and Mum says I have to be on my best behavior – It’s not easy!! 🙂

Loving your contest, maybe you’ll do a Dog Ruler of the Universe version? Just wondering? Tee Hee

    I hope you’re having a fun day,

    Your pal Snoopy 🙂

    • Hey, Snoops! Waffles is going to be looking for a job. Maybe you need a PR manager!
      ; ) Katie

    • Deb says:

You are so very welcome, Snoopy!! Hanging out with you at BlogPaws was one of the highlights of the whole trip and it was so nice to be able to give you a big hug!! xoxox

    • Hi Snoopy!
I think it’s a marvelous idea to do a Dog ruler of the World OR… Even better dynamic duo of the world– cats and dog. I’ve started a nonprofit and I know you follow my new blog PawsitivelyHumane.org . Actually Deb is a board member, maybe would should nominate Deb to continue the Ruler of the World contest.

you do amazing work Snoopy! Keep on healing and helping!
      Christine

  12. Contrary to popular belief, I am actually very pro-dog.
I have lots of doggy friends. (ok, maybe just two)
    ; ) Katie

  13. Mowzers! We’re not letting mommy read this – we think she’s been gone too often this year, and she’s NOT allowed to go to one more thing! (MOL!) Have fun!!

  14. I highly recommend people buy Deb’s book “The Chronicles of Zee and Zoey”. In the first chapters she shares chronicles of other pets, all dogs that have always been a part of her life.

I have heard of Bark world and would love to go! My eldest pet is a dog, A maltese Ma Cherie. I got her right after 9-11. She’s actually my service dog for when I’m alone at home.

    Will look into going.
