Packing my Gear and Going Cat-Camping in New York City!

Lots-of-cats

I’ll be in New York City this Saturday and Sunday for Cat Camp NYC and it should prove to be quite the adventure!

Whoo Hoo! I’m going cat-camping. Well, not literally camping. Or camping with cats. I’m going to New York City this weekend to attend Cat Camp NYC – New York’s inaugural cat-centric symposium. I had heard about the event months ago – it’s a 2-day venture that features speakers and panelists sharing their knowledge on a wide range of cat-related topics, assorted vendors selling all kinds of cool cat stuff, and cats for adoption from the local area. Due to the costs involved – airfare, food, lodging, etc. – I didn’t think I could go, so I put the thought out of my head. But sometimes fate intervenes and when I was presented with the unexpected opportunity to spend the weekend with my dear friend Laura Zaccardi of Squeedunk Whiskers & Warehouses who has a warehouse studio apartment near the event, what could a cat-loving girl do but pounce at the chance?

I’m so excited to be going because in a way it will be like a camping adventure. Not like camping outside over a campfire, more like an ultra-hip, chic, trendy, and sophisticated camping adventure in the city – something I’ve always romanticized about doing but never thought I’d live to see the day. And Laura’s such a wonderful person – she’s kind, intelligent, compassionate, deeply sensitive and someone I connect with on so many levels. We both need a break and being surrounded by so many like-minded cat people will be cleansing to our minds and souls.

It’s going to be a completely frills-free trip for me – no fancy cat outfits – just practical boots and sweaters so I can brave the frigid temperatures that my body is no longer acclimated to!

Notwithstanding the predicted high temperature of 31 degrees and low temperature of 22 on Saturday (a chilly adventure I’d prefer to pass on – I’m a very happy, warm-loving Florida girl now) I’m looking forward to all that will be going on. Vendors like Joanne McGonagle of Triple T Studios and Dorian Wagner of CatLadyBox will be there. And there will be incredible educational seminars like the one given by Dr. Jennifer Conrad of The Paw Project. And the fun stuff – like listening to Jackson Galaxy of Animal Planet’s My Cat From Hell giving a keynote speech. I’ll even be treated to a couple of my friends speaking – like Ingrid King of the Conscious Cat, Kate Benjamin of Hauspanther, and Robin Olson of Covered in Cat Hair.

I hope to take lots of pictures to share. I wish they would be of quality, but since I have an iPhone that dates to prehistoric times (a 4S) I can’t promise too much in that department, but I’ll try! I hope the event is a huge success and that lots of people learn some great stuff and that lots of kitties find forever homes.

Have a great weekend everyone and I’ll be back next week with a recap for you!

Oh Deb, that is wonderful. I’m so happy you have the opportunity to go. For years I’ve wanted to go to Blog Paws, but now I’m at tthe age and health is too bad to make the trip – I regret not having gone before. That’s why I’m so happy you are going. Go while you can girl – even if it is freezing cold in NYC. (It’s freezing cold here too – just bundle up.)
