Feline Quotable Photo Series – A Cat is Never Far From its Wild Roots

Despite that the yard is fenced and he is supervised, Rolz lives for the moments we open the door to the backyard to unleash his inner wild feline self. Every glorious sense of his is heightened and one would easily assume at a glance that perhaps a bobcat or lynx had happened upon the premises. Every muscle, every hair on his body is stunningly displayed in this photo and the quote by Jean Burden could not be more appropriate or inspired.

Jean Burden (September 1, 1914 – April 21, 2008) was an American poet, essayist, and author. She was the poetry editor for Yankee magazine for nearly fifty years and also published six best-selling books on animal welfare and pet care. She also served as administrative officer for the Meals for Millions Foundation in Los Angeles, California from 1956–1965. (Wikipedia)

  1. Rolz is one handsome guy! You are blessed that you live in an area where your cats may prowl the outdoors safely

    • Deb says:

Thank you Caren! And you are right, we are blessed! This is the first home I have ever lived in that I could let them prowl around and feel safe doing it. If that were not the case, trust me, they would not set paw outdoors!!

  2. Miss Bella used to love prowling outside and I could see her inner panther unfold. Just like a dog, or perhaps even more than a dog, cats never forget they were once worshiped as gods in egypt 😉

    • Deb says:

I love how you phrased that about Miss Bella – “her inner panther unfolded.” What a great visual and we never forget to worship our cats in our household!! 🙂

  3. he looks like a ‘wild thing’…hmmmm…I think I love you!! hmmmmthat just popped out of my mouth…wasn’t that a song….hmmmm

  4. Colby says:

I love seeing our pets on the prowl. When Linus was a puppy he used to play with my sisters cat, Lulu. Lulu would stalk Linus from the bushes and come jumping out paws in the air. It was the funniest thing ever. I wish I had video.

    Happy Wednesday!
    Colby

That picture expresses the quote perfectly! Beautiful!

  6. meowmeowmans says:

Oh Rolz, you sure fit that quote perfectly!

  7. Beautiful photo and quote! I can see that bit of “wild” in his eyes and his gaze.

  8. He is very handsome. I love to watch Flynn when he has located a mouse. He will stand motionless barely breathing then his muscles quiver and tense before the pounce. He is a very proficient hunter and rarely misses a mouse.
