The Importance of Playtime From Da Cats & Da Bird

If you are still one of the few people left on this planet who have not gotten your cat Da Bird, if this entertaining video to follow doesn’t convince you, nothing will! Rather unfathomable to me in retrospect, but in all my 50 plus cat loving years, I actually had not heard of Da Bird until I watched Jackson Galaxy use it as a behavioral toy on My Cat From Hell a few weeks ago. Apparently I had been living under a rock, because when I found the item and read the reviews, not only was every cat in the universe in love with this toy, they were addicted to it like a drug addict…

Hmmm… I have mountains of cat toys in my house and Dan said to me, “Don’t we already have enough feather toys on a stick?” I understood his point, but I told him that apparently this toy was different and it was made to simulate a bird in flight. I wasn’t completely convinced myself, but decided to order it and let my own picky gang of seven be the judge of just how awesome this toy really was. Well, literally within seconds after this ridiculously simple contraption came out of the tube it was packaged in, my cats went bonkers. Not a cat intrigued with a new toy bonkers that they wanted to sniff and bat at, but certifiably crazy, need to go to Da Bird rehab insane. THEY LOVE THIS TOY and I cannot say enough good things about it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not only is it fun for them, but Dan and I are equally as entertained as we watch our cats perform gravity defying acts that could be in the Barmum and Baily circus. Our girl Peanut is especially enamored of this toy and her athleticism rivals any Frisbee catching dog I have ever seen!  Our couch potato Harley has actually jumped up to catch Da Bird and even if these cats wanted to snub this toy, they just can’t. They are literally hypnotized by this toy and we have to  hide it in in the closest when it is not in use. The minute we go and get it, ears perk up and a stampede of cats comes running after it. Sadly, nobody from Da Bird even knows I have done this glowing review. I am not receiving any compensation, other than the pure joy it gives my cats!

The best way to show just how great Da Bird really is, is to let the cats tell the story! But, before you click to play the video, please read the important information to follow, because not only is Da Bird a highly enjoyable form of entertainment, but this toy is really, really, really good for the overall well-being of your cat!

THE BENEFITS OF DA BIRD & EXCERCISE TO YOUR CAT:

It significantly increases the human-feline bond.

It allows them to hone their innate desire to hunt. Da Bird is the enemy target and the cat will make its stealthy approach, pouncing with conviction and relishing the victory!

Exercise from playing with Da Bird will help to maintain a healthy weight for your cat.

Playing is a postive way for your cat to release pent up aggression or negative energy that might be displaced to you or other cats in your household.

Playing helps a shy or timid cat gain confidence.

Playtime helps to tire your cat so they are less likely to wake you up in the middle of the night with a sudden burst of energy and need for attention.
It’s fun for you and your cat!

  1. 8GR8CATS says:

Absolutely! We have been following Jackson’s advice for Playtime before bedtime and it has reaped the rewards you list here. Our guys are all seniors and only a couple of them play spontaneously anymore unless you engage them. Cats and PURRsons just wanna have fun!

    • Deb says:

8GR8CATS – the advice in the post is pawsome, the only point we are still working on is the one where the kitties sleep soundly through the night without distrubing us… that one, thay could really improve on!!

  2. Ingrid King says:

Don’t feel bad: even though I’ve known about Da Bird forever, we didn’t get one until just a couple of weeks ago! It’s an equally big hit at our house.

Great video – that room looks like kitty paradise with all the cat trees and toys! I’m thinking you need to get a couple of additional Da Birds, though… 🙂

    • Deb says:

Wow, if you just got Da Bird Ingrid, then I don’t feel so bad!! And yes, that room definately is a kitty paradise, but we wouldn’t have it any other way! I do need to get a few more, then we truly would have a 3-ring circus!

  3. Brian says:

We love daBird too, so much fun! We also love our new Neko Flies…bunches! Y’all have a truly wonderful weekend!

    • Deb says:

Brian, we must admit that Neko Flies is another toy we don’t have!! Our human claims to love us, but boy, she really needs to get with the program… Have a great weekend!

  4. Kjelle Bus says:

I have heard about the bird and about Neko flies too , but I don´t have neither of theme in my BIG toy-collection (yet:)

    • Deb says:

Oh Kjelle Bus – you just HAVE to get Da Bird!! Do it now – run to the computer and order one!! We need to get the Neko Flies and are just waiting for the human to walk away from the computer (which is usually NEVER).

  5. Sele: I LOVE dabird. Esp. the whistling sound it makes when mom whooshes it though the air and I always manage to get the feathers off. And of course my sister and I were both fascinated and loved your video.

    • Deb says:

Oh goody Sele – I’m glad you stopped by to watch the video, because I know you have been feeling a bit blue that you can’t go outside and play with real birdies!!

  6. Marg says:

We love DaBird and have a couple of then since there are so many of us but Mom has a hard time keeping both going at the same time. We have been through many feathers and have had to get extra ones. But it is really terrific and the cats favorite toy. Glad you are having such a good time with it.
    Take care

    • Deb says:

Marg – I can’t even imagine trying to twirl two of them at the same time! What a tropper you are! The entertainment value to watch the cats alone was worth the price, not to mention all the great excercise they get!!

  7. We bought Da Bird a a week or so ago (when Ingrid featured it on her blog) and OMG does Cody ever LOVE IT!!!

I am going to be doing a post about it too in a few weeks but your post was SUPERB!

Da Bird is one of the BEST toys out there!!

    • Deb says:

That’s cool Caren – I can’t wait to read what Cody has to say about Da Bird!! I’m glad you enjoyed the post… I’m still in shock that we just got this darn toy…

  8. What an idiot I am!!! I wrote my comment after READING your post and BEFORE I watched your video!!

    OMG your video is FANTASTIC!

Jackson Galaxy seriously needs to use this video to promote Da Bird……there is no better video out there! Fantastic, adorable…I could watch it again and again!

    • Deb says:

Caren – computer hug!! I just love you to pieces, you are so funny!! You wrote the comment before the video – so cute!! Anyhow, glad you enjoyed it and I have to agree, I think this is the best endorsement for Da Bird I have ever seen, despite my obvious love for my own kitties who are the best actor and actress kitties ever!!!!

  9. Carolyn says:

OK we are going to have to get Da Bird. I don’t even know if it has flown across the pond yet? Will have to investigate!!!

Brilliant video, loved the sound effects. Those cats are acrobats of the first order!! Love it xox

    • Deb says:

Carolyn – if you find a resource, please let us know. We have been hearing problems that due to the size of the cardboard tube it is packaged in, that it is not available from many of the US sites to ship internationally because the postage becomes outrageous. Glad you enjoyed the video – it was our pleasure to share!

      • Carolyn says:

Hi Deb, just popped back to say that I found Da Bird through Amazon UK and ordered it! It is not cheap, but looks like something Austin would love 🙂

      • Deb says:

That’s cool Carolyn! It will be interesting to know how Ausin reacts… will he love it and show it or will he secretly love it, but purposely act bored to show us he is better than Da Bird?

  10. FaRADaY: Mommy sez she’s known about Da Bird for years, but DO WE HAS ONE? NOOOoooooooo! *earnest look* don’t you think I should report her or sumpfin?

    • Deb says:

What? You did not tell me that news earlier Ryker’s Boyz ‘n’ Allie – thank you for the update FaRADaY. Your Mommy needs to be reported immediately and I strongly suggest a haughty look of distain be thrown her way… (Please don’t report me either…. we did not get our kitties one until last week – keep that a secret)

  11. Layla says:

Fun post! We make our own version of da bird mixed with Neko flies.

  12. George Beach says:

I used to take these off the shelf when working at a retail pet store (to remain nameless) and play with the cats up for adoption or staying at the hotel. I’d actually get yelled at that I was just teasing them or wasn’t authorized to do so. So sad. But, never fear, I didn’t stop. Happy cats!

  13. RumpyDog! says:

Cool toy! But I want this Jackson Galaxy dude to meet June Buggie before I believe he’s an expert about cats. woo woo woo!

  14. meowmeowmans says:

OMC! That video is fantastic, Deb! What fun.

We love Da Bird here, too. Even Sammy, our oldster, loves to stalk and catch it. 🙂

  15. Ms. Phoebe says:

My Mom and I love reading mewz blog and after seeing this pawsome video, Mom has finally agreed to let me order Da Bird (or so she likes to believe I need her permission- I know her credit card numbers by heart and order online all the time! MEWHAHA!)! I loves to hunt outside mousies, snakies, and birdies so Mom hopes playing with Da Bird will satisfy my hunting instinct and I will leave the critters be- and especially stop leaving surprises for her on the doorstep. Mew humans are strange, and obviously do not appreciate yummy gifts of noms we may bring mew! Thank mew for a CATabulous blog about mewz family, Zuess, Zoey, Peanut, and the gang are all purrty and handsome kitties. Are mew all the same breed? Mewz markings are stunning! I am a blue calico/dilute tortie senior lady cat. I don’t have a blog, but haves lots of CATerrific furiends on Facebook. I look forward to more of mewz videos and can’t wait to get Da Bird in the mail so I can play like all of mew! Purrrrrrrrr!!!! <3<3<3 Mewmew!

    • Deb says:

My goodness Ms. Phoebe!! We LOVE your enthusiasm and are so happy your Mom is getting you Da Bird!! We know you kitties like the real thing, but this is just as good and no one has to get hurt outside!! The “kittens” are a mix of Zee (our male Maine Coon) and Zoey (our female Bengal). We believe very strongly in spaying and neutering, but nature beat us to the punch and we kept three of the kittens – Mia, Peanut, and Rolz. Zeuss went to Boston to live with a dear friend of ours, but he likes to pop by to guest post!! You sound like a real pretty senior girl cat and we are thrilled to have you as our friend!!

  16. We just saw your video over at Caren and Cody’s and had to come and tell you it is FANTASTIC!!! We don’t have Da Bird but we have just put it at the top of mum’s shopping list for the next time she goes to America.

    • Deb says:

Thank you Eric and Flynn!! That is so sweet of you to take the time to drop by and comment! Da Bird is all that and so much more – we hope your mum will be visiting America soon!
